“One of the first albums that inspired me to do everything from a laptop at home, except this was recorded on 4-track tape. Hearing that raw emotion captured with just whispery vocal layers and an acoustic guitar really encouraged me to start to use my limited budget to my advantage rather than see it as a weakness.”

“…I could say the same about this album. Knowing that everything was created by J Dilla using only an MPC3000 really blew my mind when I first heard it. It’s slick and sexy, but rough around the edges and the whole thing pulses with a rhythm that completely changed my life.”

6 : Band Of Gypsys - Jimi Hendrix
”Hendrix was a huge part of my childhood, and I used to listen over and over again to a cassette tape of his that my Dad gave me when I was young. But I didn’t hear this live album until I was older, and the energy of the new configuration of band members on this album is incredibly powerful, he and the band sound as wild as fire together. I love the mix too.”

“It’s hard to pick a favourite Portishead album but this one strikes me as their most scary, and listening back to it recently I was really struck by how dark they went with it. It’s incredibly soulful for something so haunting, and the production will always be inspiring to me.”

”One of my favourite albums of all time, and in my humble opinion the greatest live album of all time. It’s incredibly raw and stirring and I just still can’t believe Donny’s voice really sounded that beautiful. Something magical was happening when they were making these recordings.”

“This album is so immersive and atmospheric, it’s easy to get completely sucked in to his world. Burial’s music has taught me a lot about hiding layers really quiet in the production and trying to sculpt a dreamlike world with these layers that the listener can find themselves lost in.”

The string arrangements are unparalleled and the lyrics hit me harder than ever. I just absolutely love the swirling, sleepy textures, the whole album is like stumbling through a dream.”
